My Design for the CSG Shirt 2010

Last February, all CS students of the University of the Philippines Cebu were informed that there will be a t-shirt design competition sponsored by the Computer Science Guild. The prize is a free t-shirt with the winning design of course. During the first few days of the competition, I was lazy and pay little attention to submitted designs posted in the CSG wall and facebook photo albums. Then one Sunday, I was encouraged by my classmate to join the competition. I created a design and then emailed it to the CSG president.

I was informed by the president that I submitted my design late and there is already a winner. Even though my design was in vain, I still uploaded my t-shirt design in my facebook album and tagged some CS students in it. There were a lot of people (take note the word phrase ‘a lot’) who likes my design and wants it to be the official shirt of CS students for 2010. I explained to them that I was late to submit and I was disqualified in the t-shirt competition.

One day, the CSG president messaged me asking for the PSD format of my design. I was so happy because I thought he will reconsider mine. I was shocked when they released the final design of the t-shirt for CS students - a highly modified version of my creation. This is the first time that I did not order an annual CS t-shirt.

People might think that I am angry to certain people but I am not. To people who might be offended with this post, I am sorry. I still have to blame myself for submitting late because I did not pay attention to the poster of the contest. I just learned a lesson.

The Sipser Show Widescreen Wallpapers

We already had a meeting last September 5, 2009 about this great show. The meeting was all about the format of the show and the tasks we need to do. I hope everyone will cooperate in the preparation.

More updates about this show will be posted in this blog later. Meanwhile, you may download one of these widescreen wallpapers for yourself.

If Ever There's a Sipser's Idol

Last August 29, 2009, I took THE CMSC 141 first long exam and guess what, it was difficult, some parts are even more difficult. I studied for almost a week but still it wasn't good enough. I think I'm just too dull to answer those kind of questions...

But there could be a bright side if 'Sipser's Idol' or maybe the title will be changed into 'Sipser's Got Talent' will push through this semester. Not only for my main reason but also for the fun part. I love to host or maybe become a contestant in this kind of shows or presentations.

Not attainable stage.

What do you think?

Sipser's Idol wallpaper is available in two screen modes, widescreen and generic.

Possible Website Layout for the Department of Computer Science

We are given a project which is not just a project by name, but also a legacy to the Department of Computer Science in the University of the Philippines Cebu College. People who are browsing the net especially the bloggers will always say that the content is more important than the design but for me, layout really matters because it is one of the reasons why people visit and stay a certain website.

Here are the possible layouts of the upcoming Department of Computer Science of UP-Cebu website. The site will be up and running this October.

A simple torquoise-colored site with white borders.

Hard-blue with dark background website layout.

This layout is based from an envelope and paper.

Yellow-themed site.

Very simple blue-white website layout.

Another torquoise-themed website layout.

These seven layouts are not yet final. The colors or even the layouts are still subject to change. Votation from the while class is needed to decide which design will be used for the DCS website. The final layout of the website will be hidden until its release.

The 30-Minute Vector Pumpkin

I googled for a tutorial, a simple one, on how to create vector images using Adobe Illustrator. The version I am using for this vector art is CS3. According to Illustrator Tutorials, this vector art is one of the simplest and easiest to create but I don't know what happened to me; I was complaining to myself and to the software almost all of the time. One of the reasons I could possibly think why it took me so long to create this thing is that I am a newbie in Illustrator.

I was so exhausted after I finished creating this art. Then I asked myself, "how do graphic artists do similar stuffs?". Some of the vector images I saw are even far more complicated than this pathetic and fake-looking pumpkin.

The finished product of the 30-minute vector art pumpkin.

At least my Halloween pumpkin looks like a graphic pumpkin. I am still reading a lot of tutorials about this amazing software because I want to create vector logos and images. I hope I can learn a lot of amazing things despite of my busy schedule. ahehehehehe

Rookie Dream Shirt

I want to print this exclusively designed shirt as soon as possible but there's a lot of issues and problems. I already canvassed t-shirt printing stores but they always say that the lesser number of orders, the more expensive this shirt would cost. Of course I cannot massively print this shirt because the title 'exclusive' will be gone and if I sell this to other people, this shirt will me meaningless to them. Even if there are people who are willing to buy this shirt, I don't want my blog to appear as if "The Rookie Blogger" is a politician running for the 2010 election or even worst, a leader of a cult.

Of course the front...

...and surprise, the back.

If you were able to read this post and managed to reach up to this sentence, please help me find a t-shirt printing store that can print this shirt for less than two hundred pesos. Silk-screen printing will do as long as the two colors are preserved. HELP ME! ahehehehe

Loser Logos I Made

These are the logos I submitted in crowdspring. Everyday, I received a letter from them that the project has been closed and a winner has been chosen, of course not me. Of course I did not expect to win in any of the project competition because I made each of the logos for less than 10 minutes, yes, you read it right, I made it quickly that I have sacrificed the quality and content. One thing good about these logos are they are in vector form (stretch the original copy of these logos to 500x500 meters, no visible pixels will appear). I learned one thing, it's not easy to create logos especially if you are creating a lot from different companies. At least I tried!

The ugliest logo for me are the 'Brian and Peter' and 'Brazos' and I made them, hahahahaha. Well I have a lot of loser-favorites like the 'Sydney Newbie', 'MinVinetu' and 'The Chive'. Please feel free to comment violently at the logos, no, don't do it violently, just speak.

Blogger/Wordpress Digital Folder

The tutorial I read was only about creating digital folders with skins but I added a dynamic picture so that the folder is sort of in use. The photo is bent in some angle so that it appears a little bit realistic.

Widescreen Wallpapers Created by Newbie

click the thumbnail to view the full resolution... (1280x800)

This is the first time I created a digital art-wallpaper and it is in a widescreen format. I combined some tutorials like masking and using the filter menu in photoshop. Personally, I don't like the results but at least I learned something.

This tutorial is a combination of retro (masking newspapers/magazines) and using the pen button. I read several blogs and comments in tutorials about pen button. I even read something about 'using the pen button is not that efficient'. The tutorial about using the pen button really helped a lot in creating this widescreen wallpaper.

The final result of the tutorial doesn't really look like this. In the tutorial I read, the final output has several rainbows and puffier clouds. The stars are also twinklier than what I have done but at least I did something similar from the tutorial - the idea.

Adobe Photoshop Tutorials [Applied]

It was a boring day so I read about photoshop tutorials. Some tutorials are for the newer versions of photoshop (CS3 and CS4) like the 3d effect but still, I tried some things that can be accomplished using my photoshop version.

This are the light effects. This are done using a lot of 'Artistic' manager in the filter layer of photoshop. Blur effects are common in the two tutorials.

I really don't like the fireball effect because it doesn't look like a fireball. The final image that was created looks like a metal that has been heated up for several hours.

The image that is covered by the sphere is blurred out so that glassy effect looks a little bit realistic. I already did some sphere effect in photoshop version 7.0 and the effects were quite devastating. Using CS2's inner glow, creating spheres has gone down to easy level.
